Pantoprazole (Protonix) is a second-generation proton pump inhibitor with fewer drug interactions than omeprazole — particularly with clopidogrel, making it the preferred PPI for cardiac patients on antiplatelet therapy.
It is used for erosive esophagitis, GERD maintenance, and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. Delayed-release tablets should be swallowed whole, not crushed.
