Montelukast (Singulair) is a leukotriene receptor antagonist used for the prophylaxis and chronic treatment of asthma in adults and children, and for the relief of symptoms of allergic rhinitis.

Taken once daily in the evening, montelukast blocks cysteinyl leukotriene receptors, reducing the inflammatory response in the airways. It is available as tablets, chewable tablets, and oral granules for young children.
