Losartan is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) used for hypertension, heart failure, and nephropathy in type 2 diabetes. It is often preferred over ACE inhibitors for patients who develop a dry cough on lisinopril.
Available as generic potassium salt tablets, losartan is safe in most patient populations and does not affect uric acid levels like some older antihypertensives.
