Levothyroxine sodium is synthetic thyroid hormone (T4) used as replacement therapy in hypothyroidism and thyroid cancer. It must be taken consistently on an empty stomach for reliable absorption.
Available under brand names Synthroid, Levoxyl, and Tirosint, generic levothyroxine is FDA-approved and bioequivalent. TSH should be monitored every 6–12 months once stabilized.
