Amlodipine is a dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker used to treat hypertension and angina. It works by relaxing the smooth muscle in arterial walls, reducing peripheral resistance and blood pressure.

Once-daily dosing, a long half-life (~35–50 hours), and excellent tolerability make amlodipine a cornerstone of antihypertensive therapy and a preferred agent in many ACC/AHA guidelines.
